Slowdawn

Effective November 3, 2026

Privacy policy

The short version: Slowdawn doesn't collect, store or share anything about you.

Everything Slowdawn does happens on your iPhone and Apple Watch. There's no account, no server, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. We never receive your plans, your location, your calendar or your sleep.

Who we are

Slowdawn is made by Justin Farrar, an independent developer. In this policy, "we" means Justin. You can reach us at hello@slowdawnapp.com.

What stays on your device

Your schedules, plans, alarm times, settings and history are stored only on your iPhone, in the app's own storage. They're shared with Slowdawn's widgets, and with its Apple Watch app through Apple's direct phone-to-watch connection. They're never sent to us.

Like any app's data, they're included in your iPhone's own backups (iCloud Backup or your computer) if you have those turned on. Apple handles those backups under Apple's privacy policy.

Permissions, and what each one is for

Each one is optional, and you can change it at any time in your iPhone's Settings app.

  • Alarms let Slowdawn schedule wake-up alarms that ring even when the app is closed.
  • Location is used on the phone to work out sunrise and first light where you are. It's never sent anywhere. With "Always" access, sunrise stays accurate while you travel.
  • Calendar (read-only) keeps your alarm from being later than your first event of the morning. Slowdawn never changes your calendar, and your events never leave the device.
  • Apple Health (read-only) reads your sleep to compare it with your plan. Slowdawn writes nothing to Health. Health data is never used for advertising and never shared.
  • Notifications are reminders created on the phone, such as wind-down, morning daylight, or a nudge if your alarms are running low.

Purchases

Slowdawn Pro and the free trial are handled by Apple through the App Store. Apple tells the app only whether you have Pro or a trial, so it can unlock features. We never see your name, Apple Account or payment details.

Siri, Shortcuts and widgets

Actions like "Skip tomorrow" and "Sleep in" run on your device. Apple processes Siri requests under its own privacy policy, and Slowdawn receives only the action itself.

Links to other websites

The app's "Why this works" cards link to the sources behind them, such as the CDC and the Sleep Foundation. Those open in your browser, and those sites have their own policies.

If you email us

If you write to us, we'll see your email address and whatever you include. We use it only to reply, and we never add you to a mailing list unless you ask to be added.

This website

slowdawnapp.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics or third-party scripts. It's hosted on GitHub Pages, which may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security. See GitHub's privacy statement.

Children

Slowdawn isn't directed at children under 13, and it collects no information from anyone, children included.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. If a change ever meant the app collecting anything, we'd say so in the app before it happened.
